Empire Times, ET for short - has been the Publication of FUSA (Flinders University Student Association) for 52 years. All current Flinders Uni students are encouraged to contribute. We accept news, features, columns, fiction, poetry, and artworks.

Keen on getting involved?

  • All current students are encouraged to submit their work, whether it's news articles, feature stories, opinion columns, fiction, poetry, or artwork.

You can choose to take on a brief provided by the editors or pitch your own ideas for consideration.

This is your opportunity to showcase your creativity, engage with fellow students, and make an impact on campus life. Join us in celebrating the diverse talents within our university and be part of something meaningful.

  • For the print magazine, contributors must adhere to specific editorial deadlines for each issue:

    Issue 1: 13 January 2025
    Issue 2: 17 March 2025
    Issue 3: 16 June 2025
    Issue 4: 25 August 2025

Meanwhile, the website allows for more flexibility, with content being published at random dates, enabling continual engagement with students.

This approach balances regularity in print with spontaneity online

  • Hop over to the contribute section of our webpage for a comprehensive overview of how to contribute and what the process entails. We provide detailed guidelines to ensure your submissions align with our standards and expectations. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us at empiretimes@flinders.edu.au.

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in Creative Writing and Philosophy. My future career aspirations is to write and/or to teach, but for now I am working in a café and occasionally in a butchery. In my spare time when not studying or working, I like to spend time with friends, read, roller-skate, and write.

#Ilovetaylorswift #slay

I am a Larrakia-Tiwi woman~ I like to refer to myself as a fruit salad as my family has many ancestry lines including, First Nations (Aboriginal), Filipino, Chinese, German and European – each of which making up a fruit in the fruit salad!

I am in my last leg of Bachelor of Arts majoring in Creative Writing and Sociology. So, I have a keen interest in society, journalism and activism. In my downtime I like to hangout with my dog Kira, draw and do whatever new hobby I’ve picked up. Right now, it’s reading alternative recipe books (trust me, it’s far more fun than you’d think)

Sage Haba is a radically sincere aesthetic productivist who specialises in affecting an ironic disposition within the pages of their artworks which often comprise a combination of the written word and the illustrated line. They also do photography that is ironic but comes across as sincere. If the world was to end tomorrow, Sage could be found staring judgmentally at the writhing throng of hedonists roiling in their revelry as the sky sparkles with kilometre long chunks of nature’s most deadly predator: the asteroid.

ON  KAURNA  LAND.

Empire Times would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands in which the editors, contributors and readers live, and honour elders past, present, and emerging. Bedford Park is a significant site in the complex Dreaming of the Kaurna ancestor Tjilbruke.

We write on behalf of the students and faculty on this land, First Nations, Non-Indigenous and Immigrant, who work and learn here. Empire Times is distributed on the traditional lands of the Arrernte, Dagoman, First Nations of the South East, First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee region, Jawoyn, Kaurna, Larrakia, Ngadjuri, Ngarrindjeri, Ramindjeri, Warumungu, Wardaman and Yolngu people.

We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, and that this land is stolen.
