ARTIST STATEMENT

The two girls in the photo are my little sisters. We're very playful so this shot followed us climbing around in these yakka bushes at our nanny and papa's farm, scratching up our legs. Their expressions are interesting to me. They're not normally so serious. This was completely undirected in a moment of them turning to face me. I love the naivety. This was taken on my Pentax K1000, a film camera that was very common from the 70's to the 90's. I use a portra400 film and I don't edit my photos. Without getting too artsy in this description, the title 'dualism' reflects the two faces that we see in the photo. It also considers the difference between the playfulness we had just been experiencing which can't really be witnessed in the solemnity of their bearing, despite it being the reality of the moment. Thus, dualism. Thank you.
